4th of July Bed Races

Snow may still be on the ground, but plans are already underway for the 2014 Bed Race competition. Now having been in full rotation for the last five years, organizers are hoping for a record turnout of beds as the 4th of July falls on a Friday.

Here’s a look at a highlight reel just released by the Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department. Mobile Friendly Video Link

“Last year we had three beds arrive at the last minute and they were ready to race. Only problem was we only had two slots available.” The race organizers ask that anyone planning on participating the races contact the Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department well in advance to secure their spot. It helps plan for the set up, brackets and even the scripted material for MC Peter-Michael Marino to call the races. “He adds a sense of comedy, timing, storytelling and hilarity to the event. He stops cars and interviews passers by. He’s been visiting Long Lake for over 25 years and knows visitors are looking for an entertaining race.”

Best Snowmobile Conditions of the Year

With over a foot of snow falling in Long Lake & Raquette Lake this week, we can honestly boast we have the best snowmobile conditions of the year. All trails are being groomed and prepped for heavy weekend travel to keep the trails as flat and rideable as we can. Use caution around the groomers. Look for banks cut on all roads leading to town including North Point, Kickerville, Dock Road, Tarbell and Sabattis. We’ve heard the good word that the tracks are in great condition, finally, the first time we’ve heard that all season!

Here’s the map.
