Labor Day BBQ, Concert and Fireworks!

The 7th Annual Long Lake Fire Department Labor Day Chicken Barbeque, Concert and Fireworks will be held September 3rd, 4 p.m. at the Mt. Sabattis Pavilion in Long Lake located at 46 Pavilion Way. Proceeds from the Chicken Barbeque will benefit the Long Lake Fire Department. Chicken dinners prepared by the Fire Department are $15 and include coleslaw, salt potato, corn and roll.

The Fulton Chain Gang hits the stage at 6pm blending modern Nashville hits with classic country and southern rock. The Fulton Chain Gang has shared the stage with national acts, including: Billy Currington, Easton Corbin, Mark Chestnut, Lynyrd Skynyrd, David Lee Murphy, Molly Hatchet, Justin Moore, Joe Diffie, Tracy Lawrence, Montgomery Gentry, and Blackberry Smoke.

The Fulton Chain Gang routinely packs venues from the Turning Stone Showroom, the Tin Rooster, Alexandria Bay’s Bonnie Castle Resort, the Saranac Brewery Thursday Night Concert Series, numerous county fairs, and the New York State Fair and this will be their 7th appearance at the Long Lake Labor Day BBQ.

The Long Lake Fire Department will be raffling off a four-wheeler at 8:30pm. Tickets will be available at the BBQ with sales ending promptly at 8pm. Raffle winner will be announced at 8:30pm

Fireworks are set for 8:45pm and can be seen from the Long Lake Town Beach or from Mt. Sabattis Pavilion.

HELPFUL HINTS FOR MAXIMIZING FUN AT THE LABOR DAY BBQ
1. Get to Pavilion Early and get a table … this just into the newsroom – there will be additional seating this year!
2. Bring lawn chairs and sit outside where the sound doesn’t seem so harsh on the ears under the tin can roof.
3. Bring cash because they don’t take credit cards!
4. Bring additional cash to get a raffle ticket for the 4-Wheeler before they sell out.
5. The Band will play one more set after the fireworks so the Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary get to dance (this is actually one of the best parts of the night -so you may want to plan to stay for that)
6. It still happens if it rains! This event happens rain or shine so if it’s raining, come on up and grab a seat. They still want to see you.
7. There will be Kids Meals including Hot Dogs available at the event.
8. There is no separate admission charge for the band so if you don’t want to eat, make sure you buy a raffle ticket at least.. but you can dance all night long for free.

The Mt. Sabattis Pavilion entrance can be found at the intersection of South Hill Road and Deerland Road at 46 Pavilion Way, Long Lake, NY.

Bob Milne Ragtime Genius in Concert, Thurs August 25th, 2016

In 2016 internationally renowned boogie-woogie pianist, Bob Milne, will perform a concert at the Long Lake Town Hall located at 1204 Main Street, Long Lake, NY on August 25th at 7:30pm. Admission is $12 per person

Milne has had a long career as a concert pianist and is officially recognized as a “National Treasure” for his diverse body of musical work archived by the Library of Congress. He has traveled the globe, garnering honorary citizenship of Japan, performing globally in Africa, Massailand, Mexico, Scotland and Switzerland. Mr. Milne has traveled extensively across North America and has at time performed over 200 concerts a year.

As a recording artist, Bob Milne has produced ten collections of solo piano rags, blues, boogies, folk and traditional tunes. He is recognized as one of the most accomplished boogie-woogie and ragtimes pianists alive. Milne’s musical works range from opera, musical theater, orchestral, solo piano to vocal.

Milne is the author of “The Journeyman Piano Player,” a collection of humorous anecdotes taken from his early years as a working musician. Mr. Milne is also an accomplished poet and published author, having written five works of fiction and non-fiction. His book “Turtle Lake” is now being made into a full-length film.

As a traveling Ragtimist, Bob Milne and wife/booking-agent/bookkeeper/navigator Linda are on the road around the USA and abroad about 90 percent of the year. Lapeer, Michigan is their stationary home, to which they retreat and refresh as often as possible. But the van is their home on the road. Outfitted with every necessity, this van has seen many, many miles of our great nation. Look for it out in the Long Lake parking lot.

Bob returns to Long Lake year after year. He enjoys the lakes and mountains of the Adirondacks and is so generous to perform concerts in Long Lake every summer. Look for his concert to be an informal classroom of music travels. Bob interacts with the audience and steers the showcase with his music and stories from concerts gone by. He’s performed over much of the globe and he has an uncanny ability to entertain the audience with his music as well has his stories. Audience members of all ages will enjoy the show.

The Town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department announces a great music line-up for the 5th annual RondeauFest on August 20th at the Mt. Sabattis Pavilion starting at 5pm and until 10pm. This year’s musical talent includes local favorite Eric Peter with Sons of Octomom, Sammich, a groovy funk/rock band from Burlington, VT, Uncle Jimmy also hailing from Vermont, Grit N Grace, a country-rock band featuring Dave Brown and Jackie Pop.

Food will be sold by Fat River Foods, a brand new food truck trailer operation featuring the talents of former Blarneystone Chefs, Dustin Traynor and Chris Hample. Sausage and Peppers, Steak Sandwiches and Quesadillas will be served. There will be no alcohol served on site. If you carry it in, carry it out.

      5pm: Sammich is a 5-piece funk/jam outfit bringing you all the chunky grooves your heart didn’t even know it desired. This band is a staple of the Nectar’s music scene in Burlington Vermont. Sam Luke – lead vocals, guitar, Dylan (Mich) Berno – lead guitar, Gyasi Garcia – keys, vocals, Shakir Stephen – bass, Dalton Muzzy – drums.

      6pm: The Sons of Octomom feature Eric Peter on lead guitar will boast their 3rd year at RondeauFest. Eric Peter is the talented and irreverent lead singer and guitarist for Sons of Octomom. He started singing at the age of three, and by 13 was playing guitar and harmonica. Early musical influences included Credence Clearwater Revival, The Beatles, Isaac Hayes, Janis Joplin, Marty Robbins, Johnny Horton, and Neil Young. After making the local rounds of garage bands, dances and talent shows during his teenage years in Schodack, NY, Eric was discovered at age 17 by a talent agent working with Nashville recording artist Mirinda (now known as Mirinda James). For three years, Eric performed with Mirinda and The American Country Band, and in 1987 was nominated for male vocalist of the year by the Northeast Country Music Association.

      Most recently, Eric has been performing throughout upstate New York as a solo artist, and playing together with the talents of Rocky and the Mooseknuckles, the Dark Marbles, and of course Sons of Octomom.

      7pm: Uncle Jimmy loves to play Outlaw Country mixed with good old Rock N’ Roll!

      Scott Evans, Sean Greenwood, and Matt Vachon, have been playing live music in the Burlington, Vermont area for over 20 years. If you like high-quality, high-energy, and a whole bunch of rowdy in your music, then Uncle Jimmy is the band for you!Their blend of country rock, 90’s hits and danceable classics will have the crowd rocking all night long.   • Long Lake Town Wide Garage Sale August 13th

    On Saturday, August 13th the Long Lake Town Wide Garage Sale will get underway. There are 17 stops along the route including a stop at the Fat River Foods Food Truck stop number 14 on the map. Look for the Pie Sale at the Long Lake Town Hall Garage and just a heads up, those pies sell fast. They are available starting at 9am until they sell out! Get there early.

    The Town Wide Garage goes on rain or shine, but it is up to the individual owners to stay open in inclement weather. There may be other pop up sales around town as you travel around looking for treasure, so keep your eyes peeled!

    The Raquette Lake Parents Teachers and Friends will sponsor the 26th annual Arts and Crafts Fair at the Raquette Lake School on Rt. 28 on Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. This is a juried show with all items being displayed for sale the work of the exhibitor on site, the majority of whom reside in the Adirondack Park.
    Adirondack artists exhibiting include Fawn Ridge Pottery of Chestertown and South Bay Jewelry of Raquette Lake. Lis Barsuglia-Madsen is back with her hand woven clothing, rugs and accessories. Other exhibitors include Bob Montesano photography and David “R.C.” Oster’s pen and ink drawings of historic buildings and Adirondack scenes. Toni Rudd will be selling her delicious homemade jams and jellies and Carol Milliman-Estes will be selling the famous Milliman homemade fudge. Kent Menges will be displaying his wrought iron work ‘Adironstix’ and Lynn Ballou of Raquette Lake with her limited edition prints and notecards.
