Long Lake NY is the launching pad for the second leg of the Norther Forest Explorer’s program in New York State. Today children from Long Lake (four of them) and area towns gathered at the Mt. Sabattis Geiger Arena to gear up and prep for a five day expedition paddling the waters of Long Lake to Tupper Lake, NY.
Long Lake is part of the 740 mile long Northern Forest Canoe Trail.
Brian MacDonald of Mac’s Canoe and the 90 Miler is leading the trip with two experienced paddlers ready to teach, paddle, engage in educational and fun activities as well as ensuring the safety of the participants. On Monday, July 18th, the group set off from an undisclosed location in Long Lake and headed to Moose Island, close to the inlet from the Raquette River to Long Lake. The rest of the trip is planned with three overnights and fun camping adventure north. They will enjoy camping in tents, spending nights under the stars and enjoying nature in all its incredible Adirondack Splendor.
NFCT’s Northern Forest Explorers Program engages rural youth in five day paddling trips that support healthy lifestyles and connect them with pride to the natural world, to their communities, and to the North Country region as a whole.
