#518RAINBOWHUNT in Long Lake NY

If you’ve been to Long Lake in recent weeks you may have seen rainbows adorning many places in town.

The 518 Rainbow Hunt has over 115,000 members in it’s Facebook Group.  The group, created in March 2020 shortly after the NYS Pause orders took effect and homeschoolers were stuck at home, scared, uncertain and afraid of what would come next, volunteers decided to shine a little light, hope and rainbows on an otherwise extremely unprecedented, scary, uncertain lock-down.

Families in the 518 area code and beyond placed handmade rainbows in their windows, doors and driveways. The goal is to create a rainbow scavenger hunt for kids who are cooped up inside for most of the day.

A local Long Lake resident and parent asked businesses and the Town of Long Lake if rainbows could be placed about to include Long Lake in this effort to bring smiles, positive vibes during the Coronavirus Lock down in New York State.

As the school year winds down, and parents start to close up their zoom aps and Microsoft Teams for the year, we just wanted to make sure everyone saw the cool rainbows that were placed around Long Lake.

Spreading Rainbows, Good Vibes, & Positivity Worldwide from the 518.

COMMUNITY UNITY BEAR-DECORATING

Calling all Long Lakers, the Town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department is hosting a community “unity” event and encouraging any home who would like, to put a decorated cutout of a Long Lake bear in their front yard. The cutouts are available for FREE at the Geiger arena, beginning on Friday May 8th. The idea is to have as many homes as possible decorate a bear and place it in their yard by May 22nd.

Parks & Rec Department will go around about 4PM on May 22nd and take pictures of the different decorations. This is not a contest, just a way to bring back some sense of unity in this trying time of social isolation and quarantine.

We ask anyone going to pick up their cutout to follow all CDC guidelines regarding social distancing, sanitation, and masks. Please email longlakeevents@gmail.com to sign up so we don’t miss any decorations, or if you have any questions.

Show Up Kids at the Adirondack Hotel, Long Lake NY

Interactive Family Comedy “Show Up, Kids!” Plays Adirondack Hotel July 11 at Noon

LONG LAKE, NY – Following critically acclaimed runs in NYC, Hollywood, and Edinburgh, Peter Michael Marino’s interactive “Show Up, Kids!” plays the Adirondack Hotel on July 11 at noon. This entirely unique, semi-improvised, family show for kids 3-10 years old puts a comedic twist on the traditional kids’ show. When the main attraction doesn’t show up, Pete enlists the kids (and adults) to help create a show from set to sound, plot to props, and costumes to characters. What could possibly go wrong?

The event kicks off at noon with a Pizza Party Buffet featuring assorted pizzas, chicken fingers, juices and cookies. Performance starts at 12:15pm and runs for one hour. Reservations can be made by emailing adkhotel@frontiernet.net or by calling 518-624-4700.

★★★★★ “Marino handles the unpredictability of working with children in an improvised environment with great skill and grace, putting on a fantastic performance which my children were talking about long after the show.” – Backstage on the Fringe

“Fantastic fun! A one-man whirling dervish of energy, comic timing, physical agility, and out and out hilarity. The kids were absolutely mesmerized!” – The Front Row Center

How to find things to do!

This is an event hunting tutorial!  We know we have a lot of activities and events happening between Long Lake and Raquette Lake and our regional communities.  At Parks and Rec we work to compile as much info as we can into one calendar.

On-line Monthly Calendar

We have an on-line version of the calendar – it changes, if there are updates, we can update them.  We work with our community resources to post info as it comes into our office and we do our best to keep up with all the happenings in and around.  If you have an event you’d like posted to the calendar email longlakeevents@gmail.com.

Alex Smith will be playing LIVE on the Long Lake Beach on Friday, July 7th at 6pm!  It’s Free!

We also have a monthly calendar put together by the Parks & Recreation office.

On Line Monthly PDF Calendar

This is distributed to area businesses, including any local places with brochure racks.  This typcially comes out the day before the end of the month.  We ask anyone looking to be included in the monthly calendar to submit to us by the 2nd to last Tuesday of the month.

We also do the “weekly” calendar which is distributed to area newspapers so we can make sure people outside of our communities can see it.

We also have the Mountain Times which comes out in July and August and it features write ups about upcoming events and advertisements for our local businesses.

We do the best that we can to include everything, but sometimes we miss something on one that is listed on another.  Just let us know and we’ll fix it as fast as we can!

So please check our calendars and you don’t see something, give us a call and we’ll do our best to help you out!

And here is the Long Lake Central School Calendar
