Raquette Lake and Long Lake Holiday Classes

The Town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department will be offering two Wreath and Balsam Workshops with Cindy Black.  Workshops will be offered Monday, November 20th, 2017, 6 p.m. at the Raquette Lake School and Monday, November 27th, 2017, 7 p.m. at the Long Lake Town Hall at 1204 Main Street.  Walk ins are welcome but sign-ups are encouraged.  Call 518-624-3077 to reserve your spot. 

 

Project cost will depend on materials used.  Balsam, tools, wire, ribbon, and decorative embellishments and will be available.  Participants are invited to bring their own items to add to their project.  Special thanks to the Long Lake and Raquette Lake Highway Department for collecting the balsam bows to be used for the workshops.

On Thursday, December 7th at 7 p.m. there will be a Holiday Craft Class with Cindy Black at the Long Lake Town Hall, 1204 Main Street.  Participants will make their own holiday angel ornaments.  Class fee is based on materials used.  Glue guns, materials and embellishments will be available.  Sign up by calling 518-624-3077 x 110.   All ages are welcome to participate and walk ins are welcome. 

Long Lake’s Adirondack Affair Episode 1

On October 1st, 2011 fans of As The World Turns stars Martha Byrne and Ellen Dolan arrived in Long Lake NY to participate in a unique fan weekend. Soap fans had the chance to act one on one with real life soap opera stars.

The story follows Grace Duryea (Martha Byrne) as she returns to her hometown of Long Lake, NY for the reading of her estranged father’s will. She’s reluctantly returned after 20 years. The characters she interacts with are all played by fans participating in the unique weekend.

Charlotte (Ellen Dolan) is upset about Grace Duryea’s return to Long Lake. Charlotte wants to keep the ghosts of the past buried, but now it is nearly impossible.

Hearth Basket Making Class

The Town of Long Lake Parks and Recreation Department is pleased to announce a Hearth Basket Class slated for Saturday, February 5, 2011 at the Long Lake Town Hall located at 1204 Main Street/Route 30 in Long Lake, NY. The class will be held from 9am to 4pm.

The class is taught by Long Lake native, Shea Farrell Carr, who took over the reins of Adirondack Basket Case from her mother, Patty Farrell, in 2009.

Shea will teach the basics of basket making and help students refine their weaving skills at this one day class. The hearth style basket is meant to hold newspapers and kindling, but can be used to store a variety of items, such as blankets and towels. Students will select colors to create their own unique basket. The base is 10” by 18” and finished dimensions of the basket are 20” wide by 14” high by 10” across. Cost, including all materials, is $50 per student. Please contact 624-3077 to sign up.
