We made our way through a monsoon Monday this past week. It didn’t look too pretty, but as luck would have it, life in the Adirondacks can be colored with all kinds of sorts a weather… so the next day… snow… and the day after that… more snow and the day after that… snow and some frosty frosty air. The team of groomers hit the trails again, gearing up for winter traffic, from here, there everywhere in the center of the park. The wind is cold, so layer up and bundle down.
Saturday is busy in Raquette with the Mike Norris Fishing Derby. Check # for registration materials.
Saturday afternoon if you have kids, trek over to the Arts Center in Blue Mt. to build & launch a rocket. Starts at 1pm.
Saturday, January 30th is the Friends of the Long Lake Library Chocoloatefest, featuring music by the Long Lake Central School Razz and the Garrison, LeBlanc Trio (who in other circles used to be known as Reflections, sounds to me like I need to get to the bottom of this mystery) Doors open at 6:30pm and admission is $5.00 a person or $15.00 for a family… so be in the mood for a chocolate eating fiesta.
Open Mike is happening at Quackenbush’s Long View Lodge and I have it on pretty good authority there will be a pretty packed house of talented musicians making special appearances. Sounds like the set up will be in the main room so anticipation for a big, fun crowd is building.
News has been brewing all around the town this week. Talk of the Governor’s proposed budget cuts include shutting down the Newcomb Visitor Interpretive Center. The Owls will be homeless… this is terrible indeed. Where will Hedwig go? Oh wrong Owl… but the VIC up in Pauls Smith is also slated to close. Stay tuned for more developments from the front of local government on this very important topic. If you have something to say about this… get your voice heard!
Media Day at Big Tupper is now on Feb 6th, which is a celebration of the re-opening of Big Tupper.
