From Boats to Kazoos – Long Lake Historical Society Exhibit

"Long Lake and other waters in the Town of Long Lake served for years as the principal highways and main streets of the community. It was natural, then, that the building of boats should become a leading occupation of the community. The well-known Adirondack guide boat is said to have originated there. George W. Smith succeeded to the trade from 1897 through 1930."

1030 am Raquette Lake is the place to be on Presidents Day weekend with a full roster of winter events. Youth activities start at 11am. Look for a variety of kids games including an obstacle course, sack races, sledding and more. Ladies Frying Pan Toss at Noon and Ice Golf and bonfire all day, 2 pm Pete and Chris Magic Show at the Raquette Lake Library, free. with Fireworks at 7pm! On Sunday at noon, it’s the Timed Cross-cut and chainsaw competition. Competitors are welcome! For more information call 518-624-3077. All events subject to change without notice.
