Join Local Birding Expert and Guide Joan Collins from Adirondack Avian Expeditions for two-days of birding tours and a special presentation open to the public. The Central Adirondacks is the place to be to spot boreal finches, White-winged Crossbills, Red Crossbills and more! Birders anticipate a terrific winter of bird viewing with flocks of White-winged Crossbills visiting from our northern Canadian neighbors. These birds like food and the summer provided plenty of cones for our feathered friends to enjoy. Bring your binoculars and winter gear to get visuals on our premiere winter visitors. Joan Collins is a certified guide with Adirondack Avian Expeditions. This event is free, but you must sign up in advance as there are limited spots. Register by calling Joan Collins at 518-624-5528. Lodging and dining information available at mylonglake.com
"Long Lake and other waters in the Town of Long Lake served for years as the principal highways and main streets of the community. It was natural, then, that the building of boats should become a leading occupation of the community. The well-known Adirondack guide boat is said to have originated there. George W. Smith succeeded to the trade from 1897 through 1930."
