Hamilton County Memorial Day Parade Speaker Slated

The Long Lake American Legion Post #650 will be hosting the Hamilton County Memorial Day Parade on Monday, May 30th in Long Lake, NY with parade line up starting at 1:15pm at the Mt. Sabattis Parking Lot at the intersection of South Hill Road and Deerland Road. At 1:30pm the parade will travel through town and conclude with a ceremony on the Long Lake Central School front Lawn. In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in the Long Lake Town Hall.

The guest speaker for the ceremony will native Tupper Lake resident, Brigadier General Timothy LaBarge.

LaBarge, a 32-year veteran of the Air Force and Air National Guard was promoted to Brigadier General in April and has been tapped to serve as the chief of staff of New York Air National Guard in Latham.

LaBarge previously served as commander of the 109th Airlift Wing at Stratton Air National Guard Base in Scotia. That unit flies the LC-130 ski-equipped aircraft, which are used to supply science research stations in Antarctica and Greenland.

He is a command pilot with experience flying T-37, T-38, C-5, C-17, C-130 and LC-130 aircraft. LaBarge has flown combat and combat support missions in operations Desert Shield and Desert Storm, Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan and Operation Iraqi Freedom, as well as polar airlift missions in support of Operation Deep Freeze in Antarctica. He has more than 5,500 hours of flight time.

LaBarge, a graduate of St. Lawrence University in Canton, enlisted in the Air Force in 1983 and was commissioned through the Officer Training School program. He is a graduate of Air Force Squadron Officers School, Air Force Command and General Staff School, Air War College, and Joint Forces Staff College. He earned a master of arts degree in military studies/strategic leadership from American Military University.

He previously served in the 105th Airlift Wing from 1992 to 2006 as a C-5 instructor and evaluator pilot, a squadron operations officer, the Chief of Standardization and Evaluation and the Chief of the Wing Command Post before moving into positions at Air Force Headquarters and New York Air National Guard Headquarters.

The Long Lake Fire Department will be serving Hot Dogs and drinks after the ceremony.

In honor of Hamilton County’s 200th birthday, the Hamilton County Bicentennial Exhibit will be on display at the Long Lake Town Hall starting at noon until the festivities conclude. Everyone is encouraged to stop in and identify residents past and present. There will be blank tags available to identify faces without a label. Residents are invited to bring copies of portraits to include in the display.

The local Long Lake Memorial Day Parade will begin at Noon starting from the Long Lake Town Hall to the cemetery, followed immediately by the Hamilton County Parade.
