Community Pride 2010

Pride Volunteers Launch Clean up From Mt. Sabattis

On Wednesday, May 5th the Town of Long Lake along with Raquette Lake and other area towns participated in Community Pride Day.  The goal, to clean up area streets and roadways to gear up for the summer season.  Area businesses sponsored tee-shirts.  The following businesses and organizations participated in Community Pride in Long Lake:  Eastern Star Abenaque Chapter #745,  Hoss’s Country Corner, Shamrock Motel and Cottages, The Cellar, The Rock Shop, Kickerville Mobil Station, Moonlighters Snowmobile Club and the Long Lake Diner and Owls Head Pub.

In Raquette Lake sponsors included:  Raquette Lake Property Owners Association,  Great Camp Sagamore, Raquette Lake Tap Room and the WW Durant.  Lunch was provided by the Raquette Lake Tap Room.  Over fourteen volunteers enjoyed a lunch provided by the Raquette Lake Tap Room and an additional cash donation was made by Kenneth Hawks to help offset the cost of the lunch.

In Long Lake fourteen volunteers collected over 30 bags of garbage stretching from Deerland up to Shaw Pond, through the center of town, down to the State Boat Launch and along Rice and Mix Road, Clement Road and along the Memorial Day Parade route.  Pat Benton sent two employees from The Hedges to help collect debris.    Doug Blodgett and Tommy Hutchins of Long Lake helped build garbage picker-upper sticks.  The town provided the bags and the garbage pickups along the way.

In Long Lake lunch was provided in part by Jim and Paula Piraino’s Long Lake Diner.  Jim explained his reasoning for offering support to Community Pride day.  “It’s an opportunity to extend a huge thanks to volunteers in the community.”  Jim and Paula, owners of the Diner, were the first volunteers to participate in Long Lake’s Community Pride Day in 2009.
