It shall be unlawful for any owner of a dog in the Town of Long Lake to permit or allow such dog to:

A. Run at large, unless the dog is restrained be an adequate leash or unless it is accompanied by its owner or a responsible person and under the full control of such owner or person. For the purpose of this Section and Article 7 of Agriculture and Markets Law, a dog or dogs hunting in company of a hunter or hunters shall be considered as accompanied by its owner.


B. Engage in habitual loud howling, barking, crying or whining or to conduct itself in such a manner as to habitually annoy any person other than the owner or harborer of the dog.


C. Cause damage or destruction to public or private property, defecate, urinate or otherwise commit a nuisance upon the property of other than the owner or harborer of the dog.


D. Bite, chase, jump upon or otherwise harass any person in such a manner as to cause intimidation or to put such person in reasonable apprehension of bodily harm or injury.

E. Habitually chase, leap upon or otherwise harass bicycles, other non-motorized means of transportation or motorized vehicles.

F. Kill or injure any dog, cat or other household pet.

G. Be unlicensed when over four months of age.

H. Not have a current and valid Town of Long Lake identification tag on its collar while at large, whether or not restrained by an adequate leash.

I. If female, when in heat, be off the owner’s premises unrestrained or left outside unattended. Any owner not adhering to this rule will be subject to having the Dog Control Officer seize the dog and move it to a safe place of confinement.

J. The Dog Control Officer of the Town of Long Lake shall administer and enforce the provisions of this article and for that purpose shall have authority to issue appearance tickets and to seize dogs, either on or off the owner’s premises, ifwitnessed to be in violation of this article.


How to License your Dog
New York State Law requires the licensing of every dog over four months of age.

To apply for a dog license, residents of the Town of Long Lake must bring the following to the Town Clerk’s Office:

Proof of current rabies vaccination signed by a licensed veterinarian or a certificate stating why the life of the dog would be endangered by the vaccine;
Spay/Neutering Certificate
If applicable; (if the Rabies Certificate indicates that your dog is altered, we will accept that in lieu of the Spay/Neutering Certificate.)
Appropriate License Fee Spay/Neutered
$10.00 Un-spayed/Un-neutered $20.00

Checks may be made payable to: Long Lake Town Clerk
*Upon submission of proper documentation, there shall be no fee charged for the license issued for any detection dog, guide dog, hearing dog, police working dog, service dog, therapy dog, war dog or working search dog.

After the application and appropriate certificates are filed and the license fee has been paid, the license will be validated for one year. Each dog is assigned a permanent official identification (ID) number and issued a metal ID tag which is to be attached to the dog’s collar. Annual license renewal reminders will be mailed from the office of the Town Clerk.
