Cardboard Box Float Off & Waterski Show

The Cardboard Boat Box Float off happens on the Long Lake Town Beach, rain or shine, on Saturday, July 15th.  Building begins at 11am with float off commencing at 1pm.  Boats can be made out of cardboard and duct tape only.  

The early morning rain is expected to subside by 11am.  

Register for the float race at the Long Lake Town Beach with Steph and Maria.  First roll of duct tape is free and $5 a roll after the first.  

While the Box Race is happening, enjoy the US Waterski Show Team as they perform demo’s from 10am.  The  on featured performance officially kicks off at 3pm.   The Long Lake Little Bus will be available to shuttle people to the downtown area.  Wave it down or call 518.323.5001 for a ride.  Public parking is available at the LL Central School Lot or near the LL Town Ball Field adjacent to St. Henry’s Church. 

There will be no boat traffic from from 2:45pm – 4pm for the safety of the water-skiers.

Food will be sold at the beach by the ADK Trading Post.  Look for their infamous Lobster Rolls, Taco in a Bag and Chicken in a Cup.  


Long Lake Winter Carnival Wrap Up

The Long Lake Winter Carnival was held on January 19, 2013. Jim and Paula Piraino were crowned King and Queen by Harry Buxton, Moonlighter’s Secretary and Treasurer. Jim and Paula own the Long Lake Diner/Owls Head Pub and have been instrumental from the inception of Long Lake Winter Carnival in making it the success it is today. Jim and Paula volunteer for many of the days events coordinating efforts for all the teams and working closely with the Town of Long Lake to make the day go smoothly.

Events kicked off with Cardboard Sled races. Winners of the 12 and Under Category were Lillian Dechene and Karlee Rockstroch with Return of the Dragon. Winner of the Adult Category was Daddy’s Folly with driver Bob Lewin, holding his title for a third year in a row.

Best in Show was awarded to Lightning McQueen, 2nd to Keller’s Kruzer and the crowd favortie, a replica of the Helms Seaplane made by James Waite which came in 3rd.

Half Court Basketball shot went to Curtis Seaman.

Winners of the Ladies Frying Pan Toss. First, Kristie Lance with 59 feet 4 inches, Second to Hillarie Logan-Dechene with 59 feet three inches and third to Jess Plumley with 59 feet two inches.

Seven teams played the Broomball tournament with the first place winners the Sock Monkeys with Kodee, Brittney, Chey, Ruth and Dave Olbert beating the Long Lake Fire Department.

Fireworks rounded out the day.

The bonfire was started and maintained by Long Lake residents and volunteers, Tom and Michelle Donnelly.

Food was served all day by the Long Lake Fire Department. Raffles were sold for an ipad mini and $200 gas card. Raffle is slated to be drawn at the Fire Department Annual BBQ.
