#518RAINBOWHUNT in Long Lake NY

If you’ve been to Long Lake in recent weeks you may have seen rainbows adorning many places in town.

The 518 Rainbow Hunt has over 115,000 members in it’s Facebook Group.  The group, created in March 2020 shortly after the NYS Pause orders took effect and homeschoolers were stuck at home, scared, uncertain and afraid of what would come next, volunteers decided to shine a little light, hope and rainbows on an otherwise extremely unprecedented, scary, uncertain lock-down.

Families in the 518 area code and beyond placed handmade rainbows in their windows, doors and driveways. The goal is to create a rainbow scavenger hunt for kids who are cooped up inside for most of the day.

A local Long Lake resident and parent asked businesses and the Town of Long Lake if rainbows could be placed about to include Long Lake in this effort to bring smiles, positive vibes during the Coronavirus Lock down in New York State.

As the school year winds down, and parents start to close up their zoom aps and Microsoft Teams for the year, we just wanted to make sure everyone saw the cool rainbows that were placed around Long Lake.

Spreading Rainbows, Good Vibes, & Positivity Worldwide from the 518.

New York State has also suspended all new camping, cabin and cottage reservations for the 2020 season until further notice. They are assessing campground status on a daily basis. MASKS
The Town of Long Lake is collecting homemade masks from volunteers willing to donate to our community members in Long Lake & Raquette Lake needing face coverings.

Anyone wishing to donate masks are asked to drop them off at the Long Lake Town Hall, 1204 Main Street, front door, located at the front entrance of the building or mail them to:

Town of Long Lake PRT
PO Box 496, Long Lake, NY 12847
Look for the box at the Long Lake Town Hall or the Raquette Lake Post Office
Masks are distributed on the honor system. Residents of are invited to pick up the masks, max of 2 per person. Like fruits and vegetables, if you touch it, then you keep it.

Kat Forsell will be coordinating the project in Raquette Lake and a box for mask drop off and pick up will be available at the RL Post Office.
We want to thank our community volunteers for helping us with this brand new program. We cannot guarantee masks availability.

If someone is in the foyer picking up their masks, do NOT enter until person exits as it is a cramped space. Please adhere to safe social distancing.

Update

We understand that not everyone is on-line so for those that aren’t regulars on Facebook, we know there is a need to get information to our most vulnerable citizens. Our Parks & Recreation department does make frequent phone calls to our seniors and we also work closely with our local meal site to hand deliver important informational flyers to our residents.

If there is a community wide emergency, we do have an automated telephone system on standby, ready to go, with our Long Lake & Raquette Lake residents and property owner contact information.

If you are a new resident or recently changed your phone number from a landline to a cell or you’d like to include additional contact number, lease sign up using our form below.  (scroll down!)

This is a work in progress so we know there may be duplication of emails, phone calls etc.  Please bear with us, we are doing the best we can and we do appreciate your feedback, and email it to longlake@mylonglake.com

Check on your neighbors, be well, stay safe.

Thank you to our community members handily crafting masks which are currently available at the Long Lake Town Hall & Raquette Lake Post Office for free.

PUBLIC HEALTH GUIDANCE TO SEASONAL RESIDENTS AND RENTAL PROPERTY OWNERS
APRIL 20, 2020

Hamilton County would like to provide some guidance as we prepare to welcome our second home owners back to the Adirondacks. In order to maintain the safety of the public we request that you consider the following information.

Second Home Owners and Snowbirds
• After you arrive, we strongly encourage you to stay at your home/on your own property for 2 weeks. We understand that during your travels you will be in contact with numerous individuals when stopping for gasoline, food, and to rest. This includes post offices, grocery stores, convenience stores, hardware stores, liquor stores, and other essential businesses.
• We do encourage you to use delivery options that many of our local businesses have in place.
• Bring supplies with you that will last you at least two weeks. Our local grocery and convenience stores are able to meet the demands of our current residents; however, a large influx of people will only limit the supplies available for all.
• Be hypersensitive to the fact that we have limited access to healthcare. Our local health centers are limiting visits and utilizing telehealth services to provide care to patients. We do not have a pharmacy in the county, and recommend setting up pharmacy delivery services.

Short/Long Term Rental Owners
• We discourage short term rentals including nightly and weekend rentals. We prefer that if you are renting out your facilities, please consider multi week or monthly rentals. We are sensitive to the fact that these renters stimulate our economy and provide financial stability for our residents.
• Long term renters should be advised that social distancing rules still apply. Gatherings greater than 10 people for any reason including vacations, parties and celebrations are prohibited at this time.
• It would be beneficial to supply your rentals with masks, hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes to promote good behavior.

Please remember to follow public health safety precautions including social distancing, compliance with wearing a face covering when in public, good handwashing and sanitizing commonly touched surfaces. Hamilton County statistics have been low, only 2 positive cases of COVID with no outbreaks of exposure, and we are all working hard to ensure the numbers stay positive.

Remember it won’t be like this forever! But for now, it is important to be considerate and follow these public health initiatives to slow, and eventually stop the spread of the Coronavirus.

Director of Public Health

ADKS We Will Be Here, Later. Covid-19 Updates

Strong is in our nature

Whether you live close by or on the other side of the world, we know the Adirondacks hold a special place in your heart. But unfortunately, now is not the time to visit. Now is a time to PAUSE, reconnect with loved ones, and find safe, healthy adventures close to home.

With that said, right now everyone deserves something to look forward to and find hope in. The Adirondacks, from the mountains to the lakes, the restaurants to the unique shops, will always endure. So rest assured, we will be here, ready to reconnect and welcome you back when the time is right. You can depend on that.

From Dr. Rider – Update

Update from Dr. Rider:                                                                                   3/20/20

As of press time today, we are seeing increased numbers of Covid-19 infections across the state and in response, the Governor has increased the number of workplace reductions and restrictions. These announcements can provoke anxiety and fear about the virus.  Keep in mind the following:

·      Many people may acquire the Covid-19 virus, but most of those infections will be unnoticed or mild and the biggest threat that the infection holds is the threat to society by exposing the elderly or medically compromised.  Therefore, isolation is the most important action you can take to prevent the spread of the infection.

·      Some people are  getting  caught up in the numbers of confirmed cases in each county….do not get a false sense of security that your county may only have a few or no confirmed cases…..presume the virus is here (because it most assuredly is)…isolate, wash your hands, and when out getting necessities,  stay 6 feet away from others (especially the elderly).

·      As of today,…. we have no reliable treatment for Covid-19, so even if you test positive for the virus there is nothing to offer you for the treatment of mild cases.  You should treat it like you would a cold…. stay in your home, isolate, monitor your temperature, wash your hands and seek medical treatment if symptoms worsen or you develop difficulty breathing.

·      Getting tested for a mild case is not necessary and as you may have seen, many places have limited testing to only those who are very sick or healthcare workers so they can return to work if negative.

·      In response to the Governor’s directive, many municipalities and counties are reducing staff, limiting access to buildings, and restricting visitors.  At my office we are limiting visits to “necessity only” and routine visits will be cancelled and re-scheduled later or conducted by telephone.  This is not only to protect you…but to protect me, my staff, and other patients from unnecessary exposure.

·      Please note that many offices, as well as my own, will have locked entrance doors and are asking people to call staff in advance so we can provide directions for entering the building.  We are taking the isolation/exposure issue very seriously and hope you are too!

We all need to take a deep breath, slow down and not panic over all the information and news we are getting thrown at us daily….our County and State Departments of Health are doing a great job in keeping us up to date on the latest information as they receive it,  and ensuring our residents are getting the care they need.

We will get through this together.  Well, actually…6 feet apart!
