Long Lake Public Library Announces New Librarian 2020

Long Lake Librarian

The Long Lake Public Library Board is delighted to welcome a new Library Director, Crystal Niedzwiadek, to the community.

Crystal has been working in public libraries since 2004, including Baltimore County Public Library, Aurora Public Library & Boulder Public Library in Colorado. She is also an alum of Drexel University’s Library & Information Science program. Although Crystal started her career as a generalist serving all ages, she now specializes in serving youth through innovative library services to include early childhood literacy programming and by engaging teens with technology in media labs and maker spaces. She enjoys most collaborating with community members and local schools to develop interesting library programs and a relevant library collection. The Collective Movie Screening

Adventuring to undiscovered peaks together, plotting midnight-raids on inner-city handrails, lapping your home run until that last ray of sunshine disappears behind a distant ridge… Skiing is Collective.

Some call it a tribe mentality, others call it a shared sense of purpose. This film is our definition, written by a diverse team, each with their own ideas, their own forms of expression.

“The Collective” is more than a sum of its parts. No matter who you are or where you come from – it feels good to be part of something special.

Screening will be Friday, October 18, 7pm at the Long View Lodge, 681 Deerland Road, Long Lake, NY 12847.

This screening is FREE!

On Saturday, September 21st the Long Boat Regatta returns to the shores of Long Lake.  This long-standing racing tradition has been happening on the waters of Long Lake as the finale race of a busy race season for over 20 years.

The race course boasts a 10 mile stretch. Boats of all classes launch from the Long Lake Town Beach and head south under the bridge to Camp Hilary and Moose Island and then turn around and return north to Round Island.

This event is spearheaded by Macs Canoes and the organizers of the 90 Miler.  Registration is from 9:30am – 10:30am on the porch of the Adirondack Hotel at $25 per person. Paddlers are welcome to register their boats.  Colleges participate with teams from Hamilton and Paul Smiths College regularly making appearances.

The camaderie of the racers is clear. Some return year after year to participate.    In 2016 a family of three, who’ve never participated in any paddling race before, took a chance and registered their boat.  They enjoyed the day, made some great friends and got to have a unique vacation experience.

Spectators are invited to the Town Beach to watch.  The Long Lake Lions Club will be on site serving lunch to the participants and anyone who wants to pop in for a delicious lunch.

Paddling Incentives!  Join the Race and look what can be yours!

There are a limited number of 90 Miler shirts still available (racer small, medium, 2xl and women’s medium).

Place your order and we will deliver to you for no extra fee at the Long Boat Regatta this weekend.

Call the race hotline to place your order: 518.891.2744.

The custom NRS straps are in!

All 2019 90 Miler paddlers who also paddle in the Long Lake Long Boat Regatta on 9/21/19 will get a complimentary set of ‘Adirondack 90 Miler’ logoed NRS buckle bumper straps!

Registration starts at 930am on race day. The race start is at 11am.

Show Up Kids, Interactive Kids Comedy Show

Show Up Kids at the Adirondack Hotel, Long Lake NY

Interactive Family Comedy “Show Up, Kids!” Plays Adirondack Hotel July 11 at Noon

LONG LAKE, NY – Following critically acclaimed runs in NYC, Hollywood, and Edinburgh, Peter Michael Marino’s interactive “Show Up, Kids!” plays the Adirondack Hotel on July 11 at noon. This entirely unique, semi-improvised, family show for kids 3-10 years old puts a comedic twist on the traditional kids’ show. When the main attraction doesn’t show up, Pete enlists the kids (and adults) to help create a show from set to sound, plot to props, and costumes to characters. What could possibly go wrong?

The event kicks off at noon with a Pizza Party Buffet featuring assorted pizzas, chicken fingers, juices and cookies. Performance starts at 12:15pm and runs for one hour. Reservations can be made by emailing or by calling 518-624-4700.

★★★★★ “Marino handles the unpredictability of working with children in an improvised environment with great skill and grace, putting on a fantastic performance which my children were talking about long after the show.” – Backstage on the Fringe

“Fantastic fun! A one-man whirling dervish of energy, comic timing, physical agility, and out and out hilarity. The kids were absolutely mesmerized!” – The Front Row Center

“This show is not like any other show. Usually, the kids are just watching things happen, but here, kids are actually part of the show. Pete definitely has a superpower!”- Kids News NYC

★★★★ “Hilarious! Marino knows what kids find funny. A show of this caliber is an opportunity to show up for!” – The Wee Review

Would the Beatles Tweet?

I would wager The Beatles would have a publicist on board the team tweeting, snapchatting, and instagramming away, Paul McCartney seems active on social media. Ask them yourself (well at least ask the fellows who look and sound a lot like them) “Hey Jude, The Tribute” take their characters seriously and will answer any and all questions as if they are the real John, Paul, Ringo and George. These guys look and sound just like the fab four and emulate them live. This is your chance to enjoy a live version of a Beatles Concert, up close and personal in Long Lake, NY Adirondacks, USA.

The Town of Long Lake announces Hey Jude The Tribute in concert on Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 7:30pm at the Long Lake Town Hall located at 1204 Main Street, NYS Route 30 in Long Lake, NY. Hey Jude the will perform a live concert that is a virtual musical history tour through the entire ten year career of The Beatles.

Hey Jude The Tribute Performs March 5th at the Long Lake Town Hall, 7:30pm

Hey Jude The Tribute Performs March 5th at the Long Lake Town Hall, 7:30pm

The band performs the songs down to the note, with authentic costumes and instruments and fan favorite songs. Advance Tickets are on sale by the Town of Long Lake for $12 and $15 at the door. Tickets can be purchased by mail by sending check or money order payable to The Town of Long Lake, PO Box 496, Long Lake, NY 12847. This is a general admission concert, doors open at 7:00pm.

Upstate New York’s first and fab four most fun tribute to the Beatles, the concert will feature many of the Beatles best sing-along tunes and energetic danceable early era hit singles. All material is performed with authentic costumes, musical gear, stage banter and mannerism.

What is your favorite Beatles Album, favorite song? Where were you when the Beatles decided to break up? Were you even born yet?

Tom Raider portrays John Lennon and has spearheaded the Hey Jude The Tribute as a labor of love. The band has been performing in the Capital Region for approximately two and a half years. Band members include Tom Raider as John Lennon, Brad Jarvis as Paul McCartney, Rick Bedrosian as George Harrison, Don Ackerman as Ringo Star and the fifth Beatle, keyboardist Rich Coogan.

The band are fans of the Beatles’ entire musical spectrum ranging from the early Sullivan years to the famous Abbey Road. The concerts replicate the unique look and sound of the Beatles’ from the costumes, mop top haircuts and imported Liverpool Boots to the Rickenbacker, Gretsh, Hofner and Epiphone guitars, Vox amps and Ludwig drums, perfecting every detail of the show.

The Town of Long Lake will provide a local shuttle bus service to and from homes, lodgings and restaurants within the town limits from 5pm until Midnight to anyone interested in dining out at an area restaurant or going out after the show. Bring Your Own Chainsaw to Raquette!

Punxsutawney Phil did NOT see his shadow at Gobbler’s Knob today, Feb. 2, 2016, Groundhog Day, and so Spring is just around the corner, but in Long Lake and Raquette Lake, we like to disagree.

While Mother Nature has been sparing with her precipitation this year, we make sure to plan plenty of activities to help pass the time of the long winter months.

Things to do in February, fan favorites are the Raquette Lake Winter Carnival, recently featured by I Love NY’s Twitter Feed!

I Love NY just featured Raquette Lake Winter Carnival in their Twitter Feed.

It’s an old fashioned small town tradition. Events range from Spaghetti Dinner on Friday, followed up by fun family activities on Saturday from sledding, skating, golf, frying pan toss, kids events, fireworks on Saturday Night. Sunday doesn’t disappoint with it’s pancake breakfast, and the infamous cross-cut and chainsaw competition. These events can happen no matter mother nature’s mood!

Now everyone always asks when the Ice Harvest in Raquette Lake is. Well, it’s again up to mother nature. We are going to be watching the temps and keeping an eye out, but the decision always rests with Raquette Lake Supply. They make the call and sometimes it’s a call that happens at the last minute. We promise to post the information when we get it. Keep an eye on the Facebook fan page for Raquette Lake for updates.

Long Lake kicks off President’s Week with an Ice Fishing Derby on Lake Eaton, a Basket Class and a week of fun-filled kids activities. For more details click on the calendar link, print it out and put on the fridge so you know what is coming up. We may be small, but we stay busy and everyone is invited to come play with us!

February Calendar of Events

Don’t forget to save the date, Hey Jude, a Beatles Tribute Band, returns to Long Lake on Saturday, March 5th at 7:30pm. Tickets available now $12 advance/ $15 at door.
