New Years Eve Planning Tools Long Lake Style in the ADK

2016NYE poster

Long Lake has it going on for New Years. Dining options galore with high end choices. It will be a fantas-smic-gourmet experience. (yah, our skilled office staff invented that word.. well we think we did.. ok it was me and Bobby)

With a variety of choices from filet mignon, lobster tails, scallops, vegetarian options, desserts, speciality drinks. It would be cool if you snapped a photo and posted it instagram, #mylonglake would be great! Thanks in advance! Make your choice and reserve today. Look for The Cellar Restaurant and Pub, The Adirondack Hotel and the Long Lake Diner/Owls Head Pub.

Here are some highlighted reviews of our local places.

The Cellar Restaurant and Pub: Every time we eat at The Cellar it just keeps getting better! We came here twice during our recent stay at Long Lake. We are so happy we found this place. Our children loved it. Service was excellent and the food is very good.

The Long Lake Diner/Owls Head Pub: Great place for good food. Locally owned and operated restaurant and you won’t be disappointed. View is great too! Great food with generous portions. Service was excellent. Owners, Jim and Paula, know how to put on a great spread!

Adirondack Hotel: Felt welcome among the regulars. We enjoyed the food and excellent service. The menu options are always interesting. The dinner is always outstanding along with tasty and unusual appetizers. Don’t miss the gift shop.

Did someone say free bikey taxi? No, we don’t have those, but we do have the Little Bus. Visitors, and residents have rated their Little Bus experience 5-stars! My most recent, favorite Little Bus memory was meeting a group of Canadian travelers, spending the holiday in Long Lake. They were adventurous and pulled over on their travels throughout the area and decided to make it their New Years Eve destination, not knowing one thing about our community. The group of them, including children were keeping their eye on the bus. Folks were coming and going in large groups, and pairs. The bus would leave and return a few minutes later with new guests and sometimes some of the same people that just left.

Long Lake Little Bus provides free transportation on New Years Eve. 518.323.5001 This will be this new busses 1st time out on New Years Eve. Let's give it a warm welcome.

Finally the guests asked a local on the porch, “What is with this traveling, little bus? Where does it go?” Clay, a local Long Laker, was exiting to catch the bus himself. He took a moment to clue the visitors in on the secret and he’s over the moon to introduce new people to the Little Bus. He insists they get on the bus and he’ll take them up the street to they can check out the appetizers. The family was appreciative of the hospitality, they raved, “This is the friendliest town we’ve ever been in. You are the nicest people.”

The options for the little bus are easy. Call the number, make sure you know where you are and you’ll be picked up. Riders can take it anywhere within town limits. It can hop from the skating rink, to the town beach to all the businesses in between and even your grandparents house on Kickerville Lane.

Ride the Little Bus and enjoy all the options without the burden of driving. Yes, its free and yes you can call it and the driver will pick you up at your home or lodging. New number for 2016 is 518-323-5001 Bring the whole family, invite friends, have a Long Lake Family reunion for New Years Eve. We promise, it will be an evening you’ll never soon forget.

If you need a place for the kids, look no further than the Geiger Arena. Movies, Wii Games, wifi and skating and sledding until 10pm. The kids can go by the Little Bus and they’ll get to their destination safely. Bobby will be serving up pizza, drinks, hot chocolate and pizza.

Polar Plunge is a tricked out time to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project.

Stay for a few nights and round out the stay with the Polar Bear Plunge on January 2nd, 2016. It’s an experience unto itself. Singles and Teams dress up in fun costumes and leap into the frosty waters of Long Lake on their mission to support The Wounded Warrior project. The banter from MC Peter Michael Marino will have you on the floor (or the sand and / or snow – because we’re on a beach) This is the 4th year for the Long Lake event and the goal is to raise $4000 to make Long Lake’s Donation total over the last four years exceed $20,000.

We hope you consider making Long Lake your destination for New Years Eve and stay a little longer after that!

For other activities look no further than a stop at iconic Adirondack landmark, Hoss’s Country Corner. Check out newly opened Adk Growl and Grub (located behind Hoss’s), grab a panini at the ADK Trading Post, a Reiki Session with Dina Kennedy and a nice bottle of speciality wine from Ali Babas Liquors. And then there’s plenty to do, drive around and explore our region, you’ll never know what you find around the corner.

SURVIVING THE BATTLEFIELD
With advancements in battlefield medicine and body armor, an unprecedented percentage of service members are surviving severe wounds or injuries. For every US soldier killed in World Wars I and II, there were 1.7 soldiers wounded. In Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom, for every US soldier killed, seven are wounded. Combined, over 48,000 servicemen and women have been physically injured in the recent military conflicts.

In addition to the physical wounds, it is estimated as many as 400,000 service members live with the invisible wounds of war including combat-related stress, major depression, and post-traumatic stress disorder. Another 320,000 are believed to have experienced a traumatic brain injury while on deployment.

Last year 19 teams raised $4956. Since event inception in 2012 $16,158 has been raised for the Wounded Warrior Project at the Feelin’ Long Lakey Polar Bear Plunge.

We welcome the return of host, Peter Michael Marino for the 2016 event. Pete has been hosting events in Long Lake since the 2012 4th of July Bed Races and the Polar Plunge in 2013. He delivers observations, embodies a great sense of humor, and has an uncanny ability to work with the crowd to make all events a full-on interactive theatrical experience. Pete’s quick wit and banter with the audience is always off the charts and provides an extra layer of hilarity to all of Long Lake’s events.

Peter Michael Marino hails from New York City and his work has been seen on five continents. He has worked extensively as a writer, director, producer, teacher and actor. Member AEA, SAG-AFTRA, The Dramatists Guild, and is a graduate of the Commercial Theater Institute.

Pete is the librettist of the West End musical Desperately Seeking Susan, based on the film of the same name and featuring the songs of Blondie. The show played at London’s Novello Theatre in 2007, and was presented by Tokyo’s legendary Toho Company at the Theatre Creation in 2009.

Pete recently finished a run of his talk-show-solo-show spoof Late with Lance! at the 2015 Edinburgh Festival Fringe where it received 5-star reviews, followed by a sold out engagement at Arts Theatre West End. Plans are underway for a month-long run in London in early 2016.
