Long Lake and Raquette Lake are central to unique cultural institutions that are must visit destinations on any trip to the Adirondacks.  The Adirondack Experience, Museum on Blue Mountain Lake, may have a new name (and a long one at that) but it is a destination that should be part of any visit to our region.  Plan a full day, if not two.  There is a lot to take in and experience at this venue.

Raquette Lake is also the notorious birthplace of Great Camps Architecture as developed by William West Durant.  His visionary estates were working towns preserved as glamouress rustic architecture, connecting man to nature in its most organic setting, the woods.  Explore the history and nature of the Adirondacks at these critically acclaimed instititions.  Must visit when here and multiple times!  Great for all ages.

The Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake:

Blue Mountain Lake’s “Adirondack Experience, The Museum on Blue Mountain Lake”,  is a treasure trove of exhibits, interactive activities and special events. In 2017 the new exhibit “Life in the Adirondacks” opens on July 1st.

It will combine the latest digital technology with real hands-on experiences to bring the spirit of adventure and breathtaking natural beauty of the Adirondacks to life. The massive new exhibition will occupy the former Roads and Rails building, and will open on July 1.
